All members of our afterschool club were invited to the Battle at the Champaign Public Library. We competed against Garden Hills and Robeson in the first round and went to a tiebreaker in the end. We unfortunately lost in the final death tiebreaker round, so did not get to advance to the finals this year. Ms. Jones and Ms. Johnson attended the competition and had some great ideas for using the books in their classrooms next year to help prepare next year's team even more! Thanks to the competitors and their parents for coming to the Battle and being so prepared!
Booker T Washington will be competing in the Battle of the Books at the Champaign Public Library again this year! (Click here for event info.) Last year we made it to the finals and are hoping to do so again this year. Our group of thirteen 3rd-5th graders are preparing for the Battle by meeting Tuesdays after school to read and discuss the 30 books on which they will be quizzed.
The twelve BTW students have been chosen to represent the school at the Champaign Public Library's Monarch Award Challenge! If your child has brought home a sheet to be signed saying they will be able to attend, please make sure it is returned to the school.
For those who would like to watch the competition: Date: Saturday, November 3rd Time: 2:00-3:00pm Place: Champaign Public Library 200 W Green St If you come, remember to wear a BTW shirt and be prepared to cheer! The Monarch Book Club has begun meeting after school in preparation for the Monarch Award Challenge at the Champaign Public Library! We are reading the books together at our weekly meetings after school and thinking of questions that might be asked at the battle. If your child is one of the 23 children in the club, please read the books together at home, so that they can be better prepared if they make it into the Challenge. Unfortunately only 12 students can represent BTW, so those invited to the challenge will be selected based on club attendance and book knowledge.
